Marcell Eugene Morse Obituary, Death – The cyclist who tragically lost his life after being struck by a train at a crossing in Henrico County on Sunday has been identified as 59-year-old Marcell Eugene Morse of Richmond.
At approximately 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, the Henrico County Police and Fire Divisions responded to reports of a crash at the railroad crossing on Hungary Road, near Oakview Avenue. When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they found Morse suffering from severe trauma and he was pronounced dead at the site of the accident.
Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that Morse was riding his bicycle across the train tracks when the crossing arms were down, indicating an oncoming train. It appears that Morse lost his balance while attempting to cross and was struck by the train.
Interestingly, another man who was with Morse had crossed the tracks on foot just before him and made it safely to the other side, without incident.
The Henrico County Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation. Those with details about the incident are encouraged to contact Officer T. Holmes at 804-501-5000.
