Marcos Duane Anaya – The Pima County community is mourning the loss of 34-year-old Marcos Duane Anaya, who died after being struck by a vehicle near Valencia and Gila Avenue late Friday, February 6.

According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD), Anaya was not in a crosswalk when the collision occurred. The driver, traveling westbound on Valencia, saw Anaya in front of them and attempted to brake, but was unable to avoid the collision. The driver remained at the scene, cooperated fully with authorities, and was confirmed not to be impaired.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but sadly, Anaya later died from his injuries. Authorities have emphasized that Anaya was wearing dark clothing at the time, making visibility a challenge in the low-light conditions.

The PCSD is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident and is asking anyone with information to contact 911 or call 88-CRIME.
