Marcus Anthony Yano Obituary, Death – A fatal two-vehicle crash in western Decatur County claimed the life of a Bartholomew County man on Thursday, Nov. 15, shortly before noon. The accident occurred near the intersection of Indiana State Road 46 and County Road 200 South. The Decatur County Sheriff’s Department (DCSD) reported receiving an emergency call about a collision between a semi-truck and a passenger van at approximately 11:42 a.m. Upon arrival, deputies found both vehicles in a field on the south side of State Road 46, evidence of the crash’s violent impact.
The driver of the van, identified as 72-year-old Marcus Anthony Yano of Columbus, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities believe his fatal injuries resulted directly from the collision. The semi-truck driver, 23-year-old Manav Rai of Newark, Delaware, survived the crash.
Initial findings suggest the semi-truck was traveling westbound on State Road 46 when it crossed the centerline, colliding head-on with the eastbound van. Investigators are still working to determine the exact cause of the crash.
The aftermath of the accident led to the closure of State Road 46 for approximately 3.5 hours to allow for a thorough investigation and the removal of debris.
Multiple agencies collaborated at the scene, including the Burney Volunteer Fire Department, Greensburg Fire Department, Decatur County EMS, Decatur County Coroner’s Office, St. Paul Marshal’s Office, Indiana State Police, and TDS Heavy Wrecker Service.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to piece together the events leading up to the tragic accident.
