Mariah Ivy Obituary, Death – A tragic home invasion and shooting in the South Chicago neighborhood over the weekend resulted in the death of a young woman after she jumped from a third-floor window in an attempt to escape.

The incident took place around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday in an apartment located in the 8000 block of South Manistee Avenue. According to police, a 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were inside the apartment when an unidentified individual forced entry, brandished a firearm, and fired a shot in their direction.

In a desperate attempt to flee, both occupants leaped from the third-floor window. The woman, later identified as 20-year-old Mariah Ivy of Steger, Illinois, sustained severe blunt-force trauma from the fall. Emergency responders transported her to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition. Unfortunately, Ivy succumbed to her injuries on Monday afternoon, as confirmed by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The man also suffered significant injuries, particularly to both of his legs, and was rushed to the same hospital, where he remained in serious condition.

As of now, authorities have not disclosed any details regarding the suspect or a potential motive for the home invasion and shooting. Area 2 detectives have taken over the investigation and are working to determine the circumstances leading up to the violent encounter.

The shocking nature of the crime has left many in the community shaken, with residents expressing concerns over safety and security in the area. Police have urged anyone with information about the case to come forward to assist in their investigation.
