Marilyn A. Good Obituary, Death – Virginia State Police have reported the death of a 20-year-old woman in Rockingham County following a bicycle accident over the weekend involving an elderly driver.
The victim has been identified as Marilyn A. Good, a resident of Rockingham County. According to authorities, the incident occurred on Saturday, August 3, at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Good was riding her bicycle eastbound on Oakwood Drive when she was hit from behind by a 2013 Kia Soul, which was also traveling eastbound. The vehicle was driven by 85-year-old Shelia Douglas of Harrisonburg.
Police say Douglas failed to maintain a safe passing distance while overtaking Good on her bicycle, resulting in the collision. Following the incident, Douglas was charged with reckless driving and for not giving a bicyclist the required space while passing.
Good sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Virginia State Police noted that the crash remains under active investigation as they continue to gather details and assess contributing factors.
The tragedy has sparked renewed attention on road safety laws concerning the rights of cyclists and the responsibilities of drivers, especially in rural or residential areas where bicycles and vehicles often share the road.
