Mark Bull – A 59-year-old man who lost his life in a single-vehicle accident along the Foothill (210) Freeway in Azusa has been publicly identified. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed Friday that the victim was Mark Bull, whose life was tragically cut short when his vehicle struck the freeway divider and a tree.
According to reports from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash occurred on Saturday afternoon at approximately 3:25 p.m. on the westbound lanes of the freeway, just east of Vernon Avenue. Authorities said Bull was behind the wheel of a gray Honda Civic when the vehicle suddenly veered across multiple lanes of traffic. The car then collided with the freeway’s center divider before continuing into a tree, causing fatal damage.
Emergency calls were placed shortly after the collision, and CHP officers quickly responded to the scene. Despite the rapid arrival of first responders, Bull was pronounced deceased following the impact. The severity of the crash indicated that the collision was forceful enough to leave little chance of survival.
Investigators have since spoken with witnesses who provided crucial details about what may have happened in the moments before the crash. One witness told CHP officers that Bull appeared to be swerving between lanes prior to losing control of his vehicle. The witness further speculated that Bull may have passed out at the wheel before the accident unfolded. While officials have not confirmed the exact cause, the possibility of a medical emergency is being considered as a contributing factor.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to piece together what led to the sudden and fatal incident. CHP officers are reviewing all available evidence, including witness statements and possible medical conditions, in an effort to establish a clearer picture of the circumstances. Toxicology reports and medical examinations are also expected to provide additional insight into whether a health issue or other factors played a role in the crash.
Traffic in the area was affected for a period of time as emergency responders and investigators worked at the scene. The collision prompted temporary lane closures, leading to delays for westbound drivers on the busy freeway. Crews later worked to clear the wreckage, allowing traffic flow to gradually return to normal.
For the community, the incident underscores the unpredictable dangers drivers can face on the roadways. While accidents involving multiple vehicles are often more common, single-vehicle crashes such as this one highlight the risks posed by sudden medical events, fatigue, or other uncontrollable factors while driving.
Authorities are urging drivers to take precautions by monitoring their health, staying attentive behind the wheel, and pulling over if they feel unwell or fatigued. Though investigators continue to examine all possible causes, officials stress the importance of remaining vigilant to reduce the risk of similar tragedies.
As of Friday, no further details have been released regarding funeral arrangements for Bull or additional findings in the case. The CHP and Medical Examiner’s Office are expected to provide updates once their investigation progresses.
