Mary Elizabeth Moody Obituary, Death – The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has shared more details about a deadly crash involving two vehicles that took place on the night of Monday, July 21, 2025, in Germantown.
According to authorities, the victim in the crash was identified as 71-year-old Mary Elizabeth Moody, a Germantown resident. Moody lost her life in the collision, which happened around 10:35 p.m. near the intersection of Great Seneca Highway and Mateny Road.
Police and Montgomery County Fire Rescue crews responded to reports of a rollover crash with an ejection at the scene. When first responders arrived, they discovered that Moody had been ejected from her vehicle during the crash.
Investigators have determined that Moody had been driving a white 2018 Subaru and was making a left-hand turn from the southbound lanes of Great Seneca Highway onto eastbound Mateny Road. At that moment, a black 2021 Mazda, traveling north on Great Seneca Highway, collided with the Subaru.
The impact of the crash caused Moody’s vehicle to overturn, resulting in her being ejected from the car. Emergency personnel attempted to save her life, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Mazda, an adult male, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities have not yet released his identity or an update on his condition.
The collision remains under active investigation by the MCPD’s Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU). Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and piece together the events leading up to the crash. They are also seeking assistance from the public to learn more about what may have occurred.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or may have relevant information is urged to contact CRU detectives at (240) 773-6620. Police hope additional witness accounts or surveillance footage may help clarify the circumstances and contribute to the ongoing investigation.
This tragic incident has raised concerns about safety at the intersection of Great Seneca Highway and Mateny Road. While no contributing factors such as speed or impairment have been confirmed by police, the investigation may explore those possibilities as part of their review.
Mary Elizabeth Moody’s death marks another devastating loss on Montgomery County’s roads. Authorities continue to stress the importance of road awareness and caution, especially during nighttime hours when visibility is reduced.
As the community mourns the passing of Moody, the police department has expressed its condolences to her family and loved ones. Updates regarding the investigation may be released in the coming days as more information becomes available.
