Maurice C. Sasse Jr. Obituary, Death – A man from Florida died in a single-vehicle crash on Sunday morning in northern New Hampshire, according to state police. Authorities were called to the scene around 11:46 a.m. following reports of a crash on Route 115 in the town of Jefferson. When they arrived, troopers found an SUV in a field on the west side of the road near Stag Hollow Road.
Initial findings indicate that the vehicle, a Honda CR-V, was heading south when the driver, 68-year-old Stephen J. Gooden of Wentworth, New Hampshire, failed to navigate a curve. The SUV left the roadway, traveled down an embankment, and collided with both a utility pole and a tree.
Gooden sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. His passenger, 70-year-old Maurice C. Sasse Jr. of Silver Springs, Florida, was seated in the front passenger seat and was also injured in the crash. Despite the efforts of emergency responders to save him, Sasse was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe that a medical issue may have contributed to the crash, though the exact cause remains under investigation. Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has information that could help with the investigation to contact Trooper Conor Doyle at 603-715-7459 or by email at Conor.F.Doyle@dos.nh.gov.
