Mayita Cocio Obituary, Death – A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday morning when a 58-year-old employee of Spartanburg Regional Hospital was struck and killed by a car while walking to the main hospital building. According to police, the woman, identified as Mayita Cocio from Spartanburg, was walking in a crosswalk between the Physician Center and the main hospital when the collision took place.
The incident occurred around 8:40 a.m. at the intersection of East Wood Street and North Church Street. Authorities reported that the vehicle, an SUV, hit Cocio as she was crossing the road. Despite immediate medical attention, Cocio was later pronounced dead at the hospital due to the injuries she sustained from the impact.
The driver of the SUV was not injured in the accident. However, the driver has been charged with driving under suspension and failure to yield to a pedestrian. At this time, the driver’s name has not been publicly released.
