Micah Booker Obituary, Death – Authorities have released the identity of the man who was fatally shot by police in Columbia, Maryland, on Monday night. The Maryland Attorney General’s Office Independent Investigations Division (IID), which is handling the case, identified the individual as 23-year-old Micah Booker of Columbia.
The incident unfolded after police received a 911 call from a residence on Wilbur Court. According to Howard County police, a 26-year-old man called to report that he had been stabbed multiple times by his brother, who was later identified as Booker. Just two minutes after the initial call, Booker also dialed 911 to report the stabbing himself.
Officers quickly responded to the area, and one officer encountered Booker standing in the middle of Oakland Mills Road. He was reportedly armed with a large, double-edged spear. According to police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn, witnesses said Booker began advancing toward the officer with the spear in hand.
In response, the officer drew his weapon, retreated several times, and gave repeated commands for Booker to drop the weapon. Despite the commands, Booker allegedly refused to comply, leaving the officer with no choice but to fire. Booker was pronounced dead at the scene.
The stabbing victim, identified as Booker’s brother, was transported to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. As of Tuesday, he remained in critical condition, police said.
Llewellyn commented on the challenging nature of domestic violence calls, emphasizing how difficult they can be to prevent. “The goal really is to try to preserve life and safety for everybody involved,” she said. “In some situations, that’s not possible, and we’re sad that that’s what had to happen.”
Per Maryland state law, the Independent Investigations Division is leading the inquiry because a police officer used deadly force resulting in a death. The officer involved in the shooting has been identified as Michael McKee, a two-year member of the Howard County Police Department currently assigned to the Field Operations Command.
As the investigation continues, police have not yet determined the motive behind the stabbing incident inside the home. Authorities are seeking additional information that might help clarify the events leading up to the encounter.
