The incident took place near the Thomas Street exit, prompting a response from the Lycoming County Coroner’s Office, Lycoming Regional Police, and Pennsylvania State Police.

Authorities reported that Kurelja was traveling north in his Subaru SUV when a Mercedes-Benz SUV veered into his lane and struck his vehicle nearly head-on. The impact left Kurelja severely trapped in the wreckage, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Mercedes, whose identity has not been released, managed to escape from the burning vehicle and attempted to flee the scene on foot. However, as she ran into the southbound lanes of Route 220, she was struck by multiple passing vehicles.

Law enforcement officers quickly took her into custody, and she was transported to the Trauma Center at UPMC for treatment of her injuries.
