Michael Procy Obituary, Death – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that a Monroe man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Sunday night in Frenchtown Township. According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, the crash occurred around 7:35 p.m. in the 3100 block of Fourth Street, just west of Bronston Street. Deputies reported that the driver, identified as 75-year-old Michael Procy of Monroe, was behind the wheel of a Ford F-150 pickup truck when the accident unfolded.
Authorities said Procy’s vehicle left the roadway for reasons that are still undetermined. After veering off, the truck struck several vehicles and roadside posts before re-entering the roadway. Moments later, the truck drifted off the road a second time, where it ultimately collided with a tree.
The impact was severe enough to eject Procy from the vehicle, despite the fact that he had been wearing a seatbelt. The sheriff’s office noted that multiple airbags deployed during the crash. After striking the tree, the truck continued moving, rotating counterclockwise before coming to a rest on private property located on the north side of Fourth Street, east of where the first collision occurred.
Emergency personnel responded quickly, but Procy was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported in connection with the incident. Authorities have not yet determined what caused the initial departure from the roadway. At this time, investigators are working to establish whether health complications, distraction, or other factors may have played a role. The sheriff’s office added that it remains unclear whether alcohol was involved.
The tragic accident has prompted reminders from local law enforcement about the unpredictability of roadway incidents, particularly involving older drivers. Investigators are examining all aspects of the crash, including mechanical factors and possible environmental conditions, to gain a better understanding of what led to the fatal sequence of events.
Procy’s family has been notified of his passing, and the community is now mourning the sudden loss of a longtime Monroe resident. Friends and neighbors describe the crash as shocking, given the quiet stretch of roadway where it occurred.
The sheriff’s office is asking for the public’s assistance as the investigation continues. Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division at 734-240-7548. Those wishing to remain anonymous may submit tips through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-SPEAK-UP or visiting www.1800speakup.org.
As the case remains open, investigators emphasize that determining the exact cause will take time. For now, the focus remains on reconstructing the events that led to Procy’s truck leaving the road and striking the tree. The sheriff’s office expressed condolences to the family, underscoring the devastating nature of the incident.
The crash serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly accidents can escalate, even when safety measures like seatbelts and airbags are in use.
