Nodir Umarov Obituary, Death – A tragic crash on Interstate 84 in Kent, Putnam County, claimed the life of a 36-year-old Brooklyn man, according to the New York State Police. The deceased has been identified as Nodir Umarov.

The fatal collision occurred on Monday, June 23. Umarov was driving westbound in the right lane of I-84 when the accident happened. State Police reported that a tractor-trailer, driven by a 34-year-old man from Florida, was slowing down as it approached a work zone. Umarov’s vehicle, for reasons still under investigation, failed to stop in time and crashed into the rear of the tractor-trailer.

The force of the impact pushed the tractor-trailer forward, causing it to strike another vehicle—a car driven by a 42-year-old man from Connecticut. In the same chain reaction, Umarov’s vehicle also collided with a separate car operated by a 68-year-old man from Georgia.

Umarov was the sole occupant of his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. Fortunately, the other drivers involved in the multi-vehicle crash reported no injuries.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene at approximately 1:48 p.m. Due to the severity of the crash and the need for a thorough investigation, all westbound lanes of I-84 were shut down in the affected area. The closure remained in place for several hours and caused significant traffic delays. The highway was fully reopened by 8:22 p.m. the same day.

The incident is still under investigation as police work to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the collision. Authorities have not yet released information regarding contributing factors such as speed, visibility, or whether distractions or mechanical issues played a role.

State Police are continuing their inquiries and have not ruled out any possibilities at this time. No charges have been filed in connection to the crash, and there is no indication that any of the drivers involved were under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Umarov’s death adds to a troubling pattern of fatal collisions involving construction zones and heavy vehicles on major roadways. Police urge all drivers to remain alert and maintain safe following distances, especially in and around areas marked for construction or maintenance.

Anyone with further information regarding the crash or who may have witnessed it is encouraged to contact the New York State Police as their investigation continues.

As of now, no further details have been released. The community and loved ones of Umarov are left mourning his sudden and tragic death.
