HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. — Authorities have identified the driver who died in a serious collision involving a passenger vehicle and a tanker truck along U.S. 24 on Monday morning, January 26, the Huntington County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office say.
According to investigators, a Jeep Liberty was traveling westbound on U.S. 24 when it crossed the median and entered the eastbound lanes, where it was struck on the side by an eastbound semi‑tanker truck near the County Road 200 East area.
The driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene by the Huntington County Coroner’s Office. Road and weather conditions in the area were reported to be difficult at the time, and local officials have said those conditions may have been a contributing factor.
The driver of the tanker truck was evaluated by medical personnel at the scene and did not require further treatment, police reported.
The collision remains under investigation by the Huntington County Sheriff’s Office and the County Coroner’s Office as they work to determine all factors involved.
