Paul A. Lyons Obituary, Death – A man who died following a vehicle crash in Decatur on Friday has been identified as 68-year-old Paul A. Lyons, according to the Macon County Coroner’s Office. The collision involved two vehicles and occurred shortly after 3 p.m. near the intersection of W. Rock Springs Road and Westgate Drive. Authorities report that the crash happened when a Chrysler PT Cruiser, driven by Lyons, was stopped in the eastbound lane of W. Rock Springs Road but was facing the opposite direction—westbound.

For reasons still under investigation, the PT Cruiser suddenly turned right, attempting to cross the westbound lane of the road in order to enter a driveway. During the maneuver, the vehicle was struck on the side by an oncoming Chevrolet pickup truck that was heading westbound.

Inside the truck were two individuals—an 18-year-old driver and a juvenile passenger. Both sustained minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Lyons, the sole occupant of the PT Cruiser, was seriously injured in the crash and was transported to the hospital. Despite medical intervention, he later died from his injuries.

Investigators have stated that there is currently no evidence that the young driver of the truck was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision.

The incident remains under active investigation as police continue to gather details to determine the exact cause and contributing factors of the fatal crash. Further updates may be released as the investigation progresses.
