NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C.  – Authorities in North Charleston are currently investigating a fatal accident that occurred early Tuesday morning involving a pedestrian and a vehicle.

According to the North Charleston Police Department, officers were dispatched to the scene of the crash around 6:30 a.m. The incident took place in the parking lot of a gas station located at 2516 Ashley Phosphate Road.

When law enforcement arrived at the location, they discovered the pedestrian unresponsive. Emergency personnel at the scene confirmed that the individual had died from their injuries. As of now, the identity of the victim has not been released to the public, pending notification of next of kin.

Police officials stated that the driver involved in the incident remained at the scene after the collision and is fully cooperating with investigators. There are currently no indications of the driver fleeing or attempting to avoid responsibility.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the crash or whether any charges will be filed. Investigators are working to gather more details, including reviewing any available surveillance footage from the gas station and speaking to witnesses who may have seen the incident occur.

The investigation is still ongoing, and police have not released information about the speed of the vehicle, whether the pedestrian was walking through the parking lot or standing still, or if visibility or other external conditions may have contributed to the crash.

Residents and commuters in the area expressed concern about safety in busy commercial zones like gas station lots, where pedestrian traffic often overlaps with moving vehicles. Some noted that early morning hours can be particularly risky due to lower visibility and increased foot traffic from customers on their way to work.

Authorities are urging anyone with additional information or footage related to the incident to contact the North Charleston Police Department. As they continue their investigation, more details are expected to be released in the coming days.
