Nevada State Police responded to the scene around 5 a.m. following a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Investigators determined that a 2017 silver Chevrolet pickup truck with two black stripes was traveling northbound on G Ranch Road when it hit a man walking in the travel lane. The point of impact was the right front of the vehicle.

The pedestrian, identified as 48-year-old Pedro Felipe Ramirez from Amargosa Valley, Nevada, died at the scene due to his injuries.

According to witnesses and police accounts, the driver initially exited the vehicle to check on Ramirez but then returned to the truck and fled the scene. This act of fleeing compounded the severity of the incident.

Law enforcement agencies, including the Nye County Sheriff’s Office and Nevada State Police, later identified the suspect as Isrrael Gutierrez-Naranjo. An arrest affidavit has been issued for Gutierrez-Naranjo, citing charges that include reckless driving resulting in death, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and failure to exercise due care around pedestrians.

This incident marks one of several fatal crashes investigated by Nevada State Police this year. According to the agency, as of 2024, there have been 68 fatal crashes in the region, resulting in 76 fatalities.
