Authorities in Arkansas are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Woodruff County that resulted in the decease of a man early Sunday morning.
According to a statement from the Arkansas State Police (ASP), the incident occurred shortly before 4:15 a.m. on March 15 in the 1100 block of White Drive. Deputies from the Woodruff County Sheriff’s Office responded to the location after receiving reports of a disturbance at a home. Officers from the Augusta Police Department were also involved in the response.
Officials say the situation escalated during the incident, and a deputy discharged a firearm, striking a man identified as 45-year-old Randy Ealy of Franklin. Authorities confirmed that Ealy died at the scene. Details about what led to the use of force have not yet been released, as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the encounter.
Following the incident, the Woodruff County Sheriff’s Office requested that the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division (CID) take the lead in reviewing the case. It is common practice for an outside agency to investigate officer-involved shootings to ensure an independent review of the events.
According to ASP, investigators will gather evidence, review witness statements, and examine all available information connected to the incident. This process may also include reviewing physical evidence, officer reports, and other materials that help clarify the timeline of events.
Authorities also confirmed that Ealy’s body will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock, where an autopsy will be conducted as part of the investigation.
Once investigators complete their work, the Criminal Investigation Division will compile a case file and submit it to the Woodruff County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors will then review the findings to determine whether the use of lethal force was consistent with Arkansas law.
