Rene Nieves Obituary, Death – Authorities in Riverside County are investigating the death of a 40-year-old man who died following a fight early Sunday morning in the unincorporated area of Corona.
According to Sgt. Mike Kelleher of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 1:34 a.m. to a business located in the 9000 block of Pulsar Court after receiving a report of a physical altercation. When they arrived, they found an off-duty paramedic and firefighter already attempting to provide emergency medical aid to the victim, later identified as Rene Nieves of Corona.
Despite lifesaving efforts, Nieves was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sgt. Kelleher stated that investigators were able to identify the other individual involved in the fight. That person was taken to the local sheriff’s station for questioning. Authorities reported that the individual cooperated fully with the investigation and was later released. No arrests were made at the time.
The cause and circumstances of the fatal confrontation remain under investigation. Officials have not yet shared what may have led to the altercation, whether any weapons were involved, or if charges are expected to be filed.
The case is being handled by the Central Homicide Unit, and Sgt. Kelleher noted that it will eventually be turned over to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office for further review and a decision on any possible legal action.
