Richard Ulloa Obituary, Death – Authorities have released new details regarding a deadly crash in Acton, California, where two people were found dead in a vehicle that had plunged into a ravine. On Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified one of the victims as 30-year-old Richard Ulloa. The second victim has not yet been publicly identified.
The incident was first reported on Sunday, Aug. 24, when California Highway Patrol officers were called to Mount Emma Road, east of Angeles Forest Highway, around 8:25 a.m. Investigators believe the crash actually happened several days earlier, on Aug. 19.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 2004 Toyota Corolla traveling westbound veered off the roadway and dropped roughly 100 feet down a steep embankment. Both occupants inside the car suffered fatal injuries. The CHP confirmed that the victims had been reported missing prior to the discovery, and their family members had begun searching canyon roads in hopes of locating them.
On Aug. 24, relatives noticed signs along Mount Emma Road suggesting a vehicle had recently left the highway. They followed the evidence down the embankment, where they located the wrecked Toyota Corolla with their missing loved ones inside. Authorities were then notified, and CHP Antelope Valley officers responded to the scene.
Initially, investigators believed the crash involved two vehicles because a second car was also found in the same ravine. However, further examination determined that the two wrecks were unrelated. The registered owner of the second vehicle provided video evidence confirming it had crashed earlier under different circumstances, eliminating any connection between the incidents.
The CHP stated that the cause of the fatal crash remains under investigation. At this stage, it has not been determined whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident. Toxicology testing and additional analysis will help clarify contributing factors.
The tragic accident has left the Acton community and the victims’ families devastated. Ulloa, one of the deceased, was confirmed by the coroner’s office, while officials continue the process of formally identifying the second victim.
