According to investigators, the shooting took place at Lynch Arena during a hockey event involving several local school teams. The arena serves as the home ice facility for the Johnson & Wales Wildcats. Teams from Coventry, Johnston, North Providence, North Smithfield, St. Raphael Academy, and Providence Country Day School were participating in scheduled games at the time.
The Pawtucket Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at the arena. Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves stated that preliminary information suggests the incident appears to have been targeted and may have stemmed from a family-related dispute.
