Authorities are continuing to investigate a homicide at a senior living community in Potomac, Maryland. According to the Montgomery County Police Department, officers responded to Cogir of Potomac on Valentine’s Day after an 87-year-old resident was reported not breathing. The individual was later pronounced deceased.
Police have identified the resident as Robert Fuller Jr.
Initial evidence at the scene indicated that the victim had suffered head trauma. Following further investigation, authorities determined that the death was the result of a shooting. Officials have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.
At this time, investigators have not identified a suspect or publicly disclosed how the shooting occurred. It remains unclear whether the incident involved someone associated with the facility or if other circumstances were involved. Police say those questions are part of the ongoing investigation.
The Montgomery County Police Department confirmed that detectives are actively working the case. No arrests have been announced, and authorities have not indicated whether there is any ongoing threat to the community.
In a statement provided to WMAR-2 News, a spokesperson for Cogir of Potomac expressed condolences to the family of the resident.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our residents. Our thoughts are with the resident’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the statement read. “An active investigation is currently being conducted by local law enforcement. We are fully cooperating with authorities and will continue to support their efforts in any way we can. Because this is an ongoing investigation and out of respect for the family’s privacy, we are unable to provide additional details at this time. The safety and well-being of our residents and team members remain our highest priority.”
