When officers arrived at the scene, they found that a 2016 Jeep Cherokee, driven by 53-year-old Jaime Bayliss of Martinsburg, had struck 29-year-old Samuel Alberto Alomino Rivera, also from Martinsburg. Rivera had been walking along the right shoulder of the road at the time of the collision.

Rivera was quickly transported to Berkeley Medical Center for treatment, but despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. Bayliss, the driver of the vehicle, was not injured in the crash.

The West Virginia State Police have launched an investigation into the incident, though no further details have been provided about the circumstances leading up to the crash.
