Scott A. Meuser, Joyce R. Surratt Obituary, Death – Three people who lost their lives in a deadly crash in Ludlow Township have now been identified by officials. The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to a two-vehicle collision Tuesday evening at the intersection of County Road 3500N and County Road 1600E. Upon arrival, they found that the crash had resulted in multiple fatalities.
Champaign County Sheriff Dustin Heuerman confirmed that two of the individuals—identified as the drivers of the vehicles involved—were pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner later identified the pickup truck driver as 62-year-old Scott A. Meuser of Paxton. The other driver, who was behind the wheel of a passenger vehicle, was identified as 56-year-old Joyce R. Surratt of Ludlow.
Additionally, there was a passenger in Surratt’s car, a 30-year-old woman from Ludlow, who was transported to a nearby hospital following the crash. Unfortunately, she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. The coroner identified her as Kelsey J. Greider.
Autopsies for all three victims have been scheduled and are expected to take place this week as authorities work to determine the precise cause of death.
The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the circumstances of the crash. As part of the investigation, County Roads 3500N and 1600E were closed for several hours Tuesday evening to allow for detailed accident reconstruction efforts.
Officials have not released any further information about the cause of the crash or whether any other vehicles were involved. The sheriff’s office is continuing its investigation into what led to the fatal collision.
