Shamone Duncan; Cook County Deputy Fatally Shot in Double Homicide During Turks and Caicos Vacation

Shamone Duncan – A Cook County deputy was tragically killed in a double homicide while on vacation in the Turks and Caicos Islands on the night of January 18, 2024. According to authorities, the shooting occurred around 10 p.m. near a well-known restaurant on Grace Bay Road.

The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force responded to reports of gunfire near a bar on Grace Bay Road. Upon arrival, they discovered three individuals who had been shot. Two of the victims died from their injuries, with one pronounced dead at the scene and the other at the hospital. The victims were later identified as Shamone Duncan, a 50-year-old Cook County Department of Corrections deputy with 20 years of service, and Dario Stubbs, a 30-year-old resident of the Turks and Caicos Islands. A third victim, a 29-year-old man, was also injured and is receiving medical treatment.

Initial investigations revealed that there was no evidence suggesting that Duncan or the other victims were the intended targets of the attack. The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force expressed their condolences, emphasizing their commitment to finding those responsible for the crime. “We condemn this violence and will remain resolute in our pursuit of the person(s) responsible for this despicable act,” the police force stated.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office also released a statement expressing their sorrow. “Our hearts are broken for the family of Deputy Shamone Duncan,” the statement read. “She was a 20-year veteran of the Cook County Department of Corrections and was currently assigned to Cermak Health Services.” The sheriff’s office has reached out to Duncan’s family to offer support and is providing assistance to her colleagues as they cope with the devastating news.

The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force has called on anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to come forward. Authorities are asking for witness accounts, video footage, or any other relevant details that could help in the investigation. Information can be submitted anonymously through the Serious Crime Unit or Crime Stoppers.

This tragic incident has left both the Cook County community and the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands grieving. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities remain dedicated to finding justice for the victims and their families.
