Shanetra Marie Batie Obituary, Death – Marion County deputies are investigating a deadly shooting that left one woman dead and the suspected gunman critically injured. The incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, near the intersection of Taylor Cut-Off Road and Highway 586 in Foxworth, Mississippi. Authorities responded to the scene following reports of gunfire.

According to investigators, a witness said an eight-year-old child who was present at the scene managed to escape unharmed by running from the vehicle involved. The witness also reported that the suspect, who had been shot, fled the scene in a vehicle shortly after the incident.

The woman killed in the shooting was identified as 35-year-old Shanetra Marie Batie, a resident of Purvis. She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

Following a search, deputies located the suspect’s vehicle abandoned behind Christian Hill Baptist Church in Foxworth. A search of the surrounding area led them to the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Christever Batie of Kokomo, Mississippi. He was found in the nearby woods suffering from a gunshot wound. Authorities took him into custody without further incident.

Christever Batie was transported to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Investigators have not yet released details on the events leading up to the shooting or the motive behind it. However, based on the shared last names, it is believed the victim and suspect may have been related or had a personal relationship.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing. Deputies are working to gather more evidence, interview witnesses, and determine what prompted the violent encounter.

No charges have been announced yet, and authorities are expected to release more information as the investigation develops.
