Shon Greenfield Obituary, Death – A man who died in a trailer home fire in Lincoln has been identified as 36-year-old Shon Greenfield, according to a statement from the Lincoln Police Department released on Monday.
The fire broke out shortly after midnight on Saturday near Southwest 15th and West Peach streets. Lincoln Fire & Rescue (LFR) responded quickly to the scene. Authorities reported that the fire began on the porch and spread rapidly throughout the mobile home, ultimately engulfing the entire structure in flames.
The intense blaze also affected a nearby trailer, resulting in significant damage. Officials estimate the structural damage to both homes at around \$53,000. In addition to that, the contents of the primary residence were valued at approximately \$40,000, bringing the total estimated loss to more than \$90,000.
Fire investigators determined that the fire was accidental. It was reportedly caused by the improper disposal of smoking materials, which ignited the blaze on the porch and led to the destructive fire that followed.
Emergency responders were able to evacuate three people from the burning home, but tragically, Greenfield, who used a wheelchair, was unable to escape. His body was discovered inside the home once the fire was brought under control and extinguished.
The fire also claimed the lives of two pets — a dog and a cat — that were inside the home at the time.
Officials also noted that several oxygen tanks were located within the residence, which may have posed an additional hazard during the fire.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, but authorities have confirmed that no foul play is suspected. The tragic loss of life, including both human and animal, serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers posed by even small fires when flammable materials and accessibility limitations are involved.
