Steve Branham Obituary, Death – The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Van Wert Post is currently investigating a deadly two-vehicle crash that took place in Emerald Township, located in Paulding County. The collision occurred around 3:20 p.m. on Friday, June 27, at the intersection of County Road 143 and U.S. Route 24.
According to preliminary findings, a 2006 GMC Envoy was heading southbound on County Road 143 when it reportedly failed to stop at a posted stop sign. As a result, the SUV entered the path of a 2025 Ford F-150 that was traveling westbound on U.S. Route 24. The two vehicles collided, and both came to a stop in the median turn area of the roadway.
The driver of the GMC Envoy was identified as 42-year-old Steve Branham of Oakwood, Ohio. Emergency responders transported Branham to Defiance Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities confirmed that Branham was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.
The Ford F-150 was carrying three individuals—the driver and two passengers—all of whom sustained minor injuries. They were also transported to Defiance Regional Hospital for medical attention. Their names have not yet been released.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, providing support with rescue, transport, and traffic control. Among those assisting were the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, Paulding County Fire and EMS, Defiance County EMS, Mercy Health Life Flight, the Ohio Department of Transportation, as well as two towing services—John’s Towing and Gideon’s Towing.
Investigators have noted that alcohol impairment may have played a role in the crash. While the full details are still being reviewed, the Ohio State Highway Patrol issued a reminder to the public emphasizing the dangers of driving under the influence and urging all motorists to make safe and sober choices behind the wheel.
