Teresa Matthews Obituary, Death – On Friday night, a multi-vehicle crash in Mustang claimed the life of one person and left three others injured, according to police reports. The collision occurred around 8:15 p.m. at the intersection of Southwest 89th Street and State Highway 4, involving a Cadillac SUV and a Dodge 2500 pickup truck. Both vehicles were traveling northbound when the crash happened.
Authorities reported that the Cadillac SUV had stopped at the intersection for a red light when the Dodge pickup truck struck it from behind at high speed. The force of the impact resulted in severe damage to the Cadillac and significant injuries to its occupants. Three of the four people inside the SUV were transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Tragically, the fourth passenger, identified as 50-year-old Teresa Matthews from Minco, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators are considering weather conditions as a factor in the crash, as dense fog blanketed the area at the time. Mustang Police Department Deputy Chief William Carpenter noted that the fog likely played a role but emphasized that excessive speed appeared to be a contributing factor as well. “Obviously, weather conditions probably played a factor, it’s pretty foggy, but that will all be taken into consideration,” Carpenter said.
Following the collision, witnesses reported that the driver of the Dodge pickup truck fled the scene on foot. There were no passengers in the truck at the time of the incident. Law enforcement officers launched a search and located the suspect approximately one mile from the crash site. He was taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect, whose name has not been released pending formal charges, faces multiple complaints, including leaving the scene of a fatal accident, negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, and reckless driving. He is currently being held at the Canadian County Jail as the investigation continues.
Authorities have confirmed that their findings will be presented to the Canadian County District Attorney’s Office for review and potential prosecution. The Mustang Police Department is urging anyone with additional information about the crash to come forward.
The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of excessive speed and poor weather conditions on the road. Police continue to investigate the events leading up to the collision to determine all contributing factors and ensure accountability for the loss of life.
