The incident occurred around 1:15 a.m. on Route 4 (East Chestnut Hill Road), just west of Martindale Drive. According to police reports, King was walking in the left lane of the road when he unexpectedly stepped directly into the path of a Kia driven by a 36-year-old man from Newark. Despite the driver’s efforts, he was unable to avoid hitting King, who was dressed in dark clothing at the time of the accident.

The crash resulted in King’s death at the scene. Neither the driver, who had two passengers in the vehicle — a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old — were injured during the incident. The Delaware State Police are continuing their investigation, and detectives are working to understand why King was walking on the road at the time of the crash.
