Theresa Giullari, Stephen Lindsay Obituary, Death – Three people from New York’s Finger Lakes region were among the eight individuals who tragically died when a boat overturned during a storm on Lake Tahoe over the weekend.
According to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal boating accident occurred on Saturday on the lake’s southwest side as a sudden storm swept through the area, producing rough water and high waves. A 27-foot boat carrying multiple passengers capsized amid the severe conditions, leading to multiple fatalities.
Authorities released the identities of the victims on Tuesday. Among those who lost their lives were two residents from Honeoye and one from Livingston County:
- Theresa Giullari, 66, of Honeoye, New York
- James Guck, 69, also from Honeoye
- Stephen Lindsay, 63, from Springwater, located in Livingston County, New York
In addition to the three New Yorkers, five California residents were also killed in the incident:
- Paula Bozinovich, 71, of Redwood City
- Terry Pickles, 73, also of Redwood City
- Joshua Antony Pickles, 37, of San Francisco
- Peter Bayes, 72, of Lincoln
- Timothy O’Leary, 71, of Auburn
The accident occurred when the boat, which was navigating the southwest part of Lake Tahoe, encountered stormy weather that brought powerful winds and rough waves, ultimately causing the vessel to overturn. Emergency responders and rescue crews rushed to the scene, but eight of the individuals on board were unable to survive the ordeal.
Authorities have not yet disclosed how many people were on the boat at the time of the accident or whether anyone survived. It is also unclear whether the victims were wearing life jackets or if there were any distress signals sent before the boat flipped.
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. Officials are expected to examine weather data, boat conditions, and any other evidence that could help determine what led to the capsizing.
The loss of multiple lives has deeply affected communities both in New York and California. In the Finger Lakes region, friends and family members are mourning the deaths of Giullari, Guck, and Lindsay, all of whom were known to be active and well-liked in their local communities.
