Tiara Belizaire-Young Obituary, Death Cause – Pembroke Pines police have identified one of the victims in a recent double homicide and confirmed that a suspect has been taken into custody. Authorities said the woman killed was Tiara Belizaire-Young, whose body was discovered along with that of Octavis Myers at a home in the 1700 block of Northwest 109th Avenue on Wednesday.
The man accused in their deaths is 27-year-old Isaiah Collins, who is also the grandson of the homeowner. Officials said the case unfolded over several days, beginning with a grim discovery when police responded to a 911 call about an unresponsive man found in the garage of the residence. When officers arrived, they located Myers’ body in the garage, which investigators said had likely been there for some time. A further search of the home led to the discovery of Belizaire-Young’s body in a bedroom.
Police noted that neither victim permanently resided at the home. The house is owned by an elderly woman, Collins’ grandmother, who told investigators she was unaware the victims were inside. Officers explained that one of the bodies was in the garage and the other in a bedroom, both areas she rarely entered. It was only after the family’s dog began behaving unusually that a relative, who had come over to help walk the pet, stumbled upon the scene.
Following the discovery, police began searching for Collins, who had not been seen in several days. Initially, officers said they were concerned for his safety rather than treating him as a suspect. However, as detectives gathered evidence, they determined there was sufficient cause to charge him with two counts of first-degree murder with a firearm.
The manhunt for Collins ended Sunday when an off-duty Miami-Dade deputy spotted him in a park in Miami Gardens. When other officers responded, Collins attempted to flee. Deputies reported that he ran across the Florida Turnpike, leaped into a canal, and climbed into a tree in an effort to escape. At one point, deputies said Collins reached toward his waistband in a motion suggesting he may have been armed. This prompted a deputy to fire, though no one was struck at that moment.
Collins was eventually subdued and taken into custody. He was then airlifted to HCA Aventura Hospital for treatment, where officials said he was in stable condition. No deputies or bystanders were injured during the confrontation.
Authorities emphasized that the investigation is still active. Because the incident involved officers firing their weapons, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has taken over the review, which is standard protocol in police-involved shootings.
Meanwhile, Pembroke Pines police continue to piece together what led to the killings of Belizaire-Young and Myers. The arrest of Collins marks a significant step in the case, but detectives have not disclosed a possible motive.
Collins now faces not only the homicide charges but also additional counts stemming from his capture. Investigators are expected to release more details as the case progresses in both Broward and Miami-Dade jurisdictions.
