Travon Wilford Obituary, Death – A 30-year-old man lost his life after being struck by a vehicle late Wednesday night while attempting to cross a street in Columbus. The incident happened at approximately 9:45 p.m. in the 1300 block of Polaris Parkway, according to WBNS-10TV.
Authorities reported that the victim, identified as Travon Wilford, was running across the roadway outside of a designated crosswalk and against the traffic signal. As he crossed, he entered the path of a vehicle traveling westbound on Polaris Parkway and was hit.
Emergency personnel quickly responded to the scene and found Wilford with critical injuries. He was transported to Grant Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, at 10:19 p.m.
Police said the driver who struck Wilford remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. There is no information at this time indicating that the driver fled or was under the influence.
The Columbus police are currently investigating the crash to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal collision. Investigators have not released additional details about the driver or whether any charges might be filed.
As the investigation continues, authorities remind pedestrians to use crosswalks and obey traffic signals to help prevent such tragedies.
