Turrell Dantae Clay Death News – Turrell Dantae Clay, 33, died hours after Phoenix police used force to arrest him, as reported by Sgt. Rob Scherer of the Phoenix Police Department. Clay was apprehended on Jan. 10 near Thomas Road and 39th Avenue due to an outstanding felony warrant. He attempted to evade arrest, carrying a gun, and climbed onto a nearby home’s roof. Officers employed less lethal methods to get him down and faced a struggle while handcuffing him, Scherer stated.
After officers managed to handcuff Clay, they called paramedics from the Phoenix Fire Department to evaluate him. Despite being released by the paramedics, Clay soon reported difficulty breathing. Officers then transported him to a hospital, where he was later transferred by a private ambulance to a cardiac hospital for advanced treatment. Unfortunately, Clay did not survive the surgery, according to Scherer.
The Maricopa County Examiner’s Office will determine Clay’s cause of death, and a death investigation has been initiated by detectives. Scherer also mentioned that Phoenix police plan to release a briefing video within two weeks as part of their transparency efforts.
