OKLAHOMA CITY — Two people are dead and one person has been arrested following a fatal car crash that occurred early Tuesday morning in southwest Oklahoma City. The incident happened around 2 a.m. in the area of Southwest 24th Street and Agnew Avenue.
According to authorities, emergency responders were alerted to the crash not through a traditional 911 call, but via an automated iPhone crash detection alert, which notified dispatchers of the wreck. When police arrived at the scene, they found multiple people involved in the collision.
One of the victims was declared dead at the scene by first responders. Two other individuals were transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Police later confirmed that one of those two victims died from their injuries at the hospital. The condition of the third person involved has not yet been made public.
Police say the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. Authorities believe intoxication may have played a role in the deadly collision. No further details about the suspect, including their name or age, have been released at this time.
Similarly, the identities of the two victims have not been made public as authorities are likely still working to notify next of kin.
The Oklahoma City Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. It remains unclear how many vehicles were involved beyond the suspect’s and the victims’, or what specifically led to the collision. Investigators will be reviewing crash scene evidence and may conduct toxicology testing as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Tuesday’s crash adds to a troubling trend of fatal collisions across the region, many of which involve impaired drivers. Law enforcement agencies have continued to warn against the dangers of driving under the influence, reminding the public that such choices can lead to irreversible consequences.
In the wake of the crash, police may release additional details once the investigation progresses and the victims’ families have been notified. It is not yet known whether formal charges have been filed against the arrested suspect or whether they remain in custody pending further investigation.
Authorities are also likely to review traffic camera footage, interview witnesses, and reconstruct the crash as part of their standard procedure in fatal accidents. The intersection of Southwest 24th Street and Agnew Avenue was temporarily closed for several hours Tuesday morning while police processed the scene.
As the investigation continues, community members are mourning the lives lost in yet another tragedy linked to suspected impaired driving. Police are urging anyone with information related to the crash to contact the Oklahoma City Police Department.
The case serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of reckless and impaired driving and the need for responsible choices behind the wheel.
