Authorities have identified a woman who died in a house fire in Terre Haute over the weekend.

The Vigo County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim as 70-year-old Vicky Chaney of Terre Haute. Officials said the cause of death was thermal injury and smoke inhalation, and the incident has been classified as accidental.

The fire occurred early Sunday morning on the 2700 block of Cruft Street. Fire crews responded to the scene at 5:24 a.m. and encountered heavy smoke and flames. Crews attempted an interior search but had to withdraw due to concerns about the structural stability of the home.

No firefighters were injured during the response. A nearby residence sustained minor damage from the fire, authorities said.

The Terre Haute Police Department and Terre Haute Fire Department are jointly investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire and the victim’s death. Officials have not released additional details at this time.
