William Biggerstaff Obituary, Death – Authorities have identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed by an Amtrak train near UNC Charlotte on Friday evening. The victim was 62-year-old William Biggerstaff, police confirmed.

The fatal incident occurred around 7:25 p.m. on March 21 near Old Concord Road. According to investigators, Biggerstaff was walking along the westernmost track when a southbound Amtrak train approached. He was in the middle of the track when he was hit by the train.

Emergency responders arrived shortly after the crash and discovered Biggerstaff unresponsive on the east side of the track. He had suffered severe injuries from the impact. Despite paramedics’ efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police stated that there was no indication of impairment on the part of the train operator. However, it remains unclear why Biggerstaff was on the tracks at the time of the collision. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
