Wyatt T. Johnson Obituary, Death – A fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a semi-truck occurred Monday afternoon in Montgomery County, located in southeastern Kansas, according to authorities.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that the crash took place around 3:57 p.m. near 2205 County Road 4300, which is just north of Morning Lane Road and approximately one mile northwest of Coffeyville.
The incident involved a 2012 Freightliner semitrailer traveling southbound on County Road 4300. The driver of the semi was attempting to make a left-hand turn into a driveway when the vehicle collided with a motorcycle heading north on the same road. The motorcycle involved was identified as a 1998 Honda V75.
The motorcyclist, identified as 22-year-old Wyatt T. Johnson of Coffeyville, sustained critical injuries in the crash. Emergency responders transported him to Coffeyville Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities noted that Johnson was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The driver of the semitrailer was identified as 38-year-old Derek A. Taggart from Altamont. He was not injured in the incident and was confirmed to have been wearing a seatbelt. Taggart was the sole occupant of the truck.
Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the crash. No further information has been released regarding potential contributing factors or whether any citations or charges may be issued.
