Authorities in Ottawa County are investigating a fatal crash that occurred early Sunday morning, leaving a motorcyclist dead following a collision with a pickup truck.
According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 12:24 a.m. on May 3 to a reported crash along State Road in Crockery Township. When emergency responders arrived, they found that a motorcycle and a pickup truck had collided under circumstances that are still being reviewed.
The motorcyclist, identified as a 35-year-old man from Spring Lake, was traveling westbound on a Harley-Davidson at the time of the incident. Investigators say that as he approached a private driveway, a GMC pickup truck was in the process of backing out onto the roadway.
Preliminary findings suggest that as the truck entered the road, the motorcyclist attempted to pass on the right side while accelerating. During this maneuver, the motorcycle collided with the front corner of the pickup truck.
The impact caused the rider to be thrown from the motorcycle. Emergency personnel at the scene immediately began lifesaving efforts, but despite their attempts, the man was pronounced dead at the location of the crash.
Authorities confirmed that no other individuals were injured in the incident.
The area was temporarily secured while deputies conducted an initial investigation and documented evidence, including vehicle positions and roadway conditions. Traffic in the area was briefly affected as crews worked to clear the scene.
Officials have stated that the crash remains under active investigation. Detectives are expected to review additional evidence and determine the factors that contributed to the collision.
No further details have been released at this time, and authorities say updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
