Authorities have identified the man who lost his life following a shooting at a Culver City shopping center late last week. Officials say the investigation remains active as detectives work to determine what led to the incident.
According to the Culver City Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 7:25 p.m. Friday after receiving reports of gunfire in the north parking area of Westfield Culver City Mall, located along Sepulveda Boulevard. The response followed multiple calls from members of the public reporting a disturbance in the area.
When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from gunshot-related injuries. Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene and transported the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, authorities confirmed that the man later passed away at the hospital.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner later identified the deceased as 25-year-old Angel Torres of Los Angeles. Officials have not released further personal details out of respect for the family and in accordance with standard procedures.
Police also confirmed that a second adult male was injured during the same incident. That individual was later located at a hospital with injuries that were described as non-life-threatening. Authorities said the second victim is expected to recover. No additional information about his identity has been released.
In the hours following the shooting, multiple law enforcement agencies from surrounding jurisdictions assisted Culver City police with area checks and efforts to locate potential suspects. Investigators believe two individuals may have been involved. As of the latest update from authorities, no arrests have been made.
Police stated that two firearms were recovered at the scene. Investigators are examining the evidence as part of their effort to determine how the incident unfolded and whether the weapons are connected to other cases. Officials emphasized that the presence of recovered evidence does not imply conclusions about responsibility at this stage.
Authorities noted that this was the first homicide reported in Culver City since 2023. Law enforcement leaders said the department continues to prioritize public safety and community outreach as the investigation progresses.
Culver City police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information that could assist investigators to come forward.
