Emmanuel Kwame Gbedee – Investigators are currently working to understand the circumstances surrounding the death of a 57-year-old man, whose body was discovered in the backseat of a vehicle in Johnston County on Sunday. The victim, later identified as Emmanuel Kwame Gbedee from Durham, was found with an apparent gunshot wound.

The incident began around 1:06 a.m. when the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol received separate reports from concerned individuals. One caller reported a suspicious person walking near a shelter in the 2500 block of Holly Grove Road, describing the individual as wearing all-black clothing. Another caller reported seeing a vehicle in the same area with its four-way flashers on. Initially, authorities thought the vehicle might have been involved in an accident.

A state trooper was the first to arrive at the scene and discovered the body of Gbedee in the backseat of the vehicle. Upon inspection, the trooper found that Gbedee had suffered a gunshot wound. Authorities quickly established a crime scene, and the investigation was categorized as a homicide.

As of 11:30 a.m. Monday, no suspects had been identified in connection with Gbedee’s death. The sheriff’s office is actively pursuing leads in the case, and further details will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
