Authorities have identified a 70-year-old man who passed away after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday in Woodbridge, Virginia. According to the Prince William County Police Department, the incident occurred along Richmond Highway when a pedestrian was crossing the roadway.
Police said the man, identified as Julio Carlos Cruz Merino, was attempting to cross Richmond Highway when he was struck by a Toyota Camry traveling southbound. Investigators reported that the pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported Cruz Merino to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries, authorities confirmed.
The driver of the Camry, identified by police as a 19-year-old man, remained at the scene following the crash and cooperated with investigators. Officials have not announced any charges in connection with the incident.
Prince William County Police stated that the crash remains under investigation as detectives work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities have not released additional details about factors that may have contributed to the collision.
