A fatal crash on Interstate 95 near the Danvers–Peabody line has left investigators working to piece together the moments leading up to a devastating collision that claimed the life of a Massachusetts truck driver earlier this week.

Authorities confirmed that the victim has been identified as 61-year-old Justin Obert of Plymouth. The Essex County District Attorney’s Office released his identity following notification of his family.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:45 a.m. on Monday in the northbound lanes near Exit 70, which connects to Route 1 in Danvers. According to preliminary findings, the crash involved a 2018 Honda Pilot and a 2003 Peterbilt tractor trailer traveling in the same direction.

For reasons still under investigation, the two vehicles collided, causing both to veer off the highway. The Honda Pilot left the roadway and struck a roadside sign. Despite the impact, the occupants of the SUV were evaluated at the scene and declined further medical treatment.

The tractor trailer also lost control following the collision, rolling over and striking a guardrail along the highway. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Obert was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not yet released details regarding what may have led to the crash, and it remains unclear whether speed, road conditions, or other contributing factors played a role. Investigators are reviewing physical evidence and witness accounts as they work to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted as crews cleared the wreckage and secured the scene.

Officials have stated that the investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be released as more information becomes available.
