A fatal crash early Thursday morning on a Walworth County roadway has led to an arrest, as authorities work to determine how a pedestrian was struck and killed in what officials describe as a hit-and-run incident.

The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a 65-year-old man from New Berlin was found unresponsive on the roadway near the intersection of Highway 20 and Townline Road in the Town of Troy. Emergency responders were called to the scene after multiple 911 reports indicated that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian and left the area.

When deputies arrived, they located the man in the roadway with serious injuries. Despite efforts from first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to investigators, the vehicle involved initially left the location after the collision. However, officials said the driver later returned to the scene shortly afterward, where law enforcement made contact.

Following preliminary investigation, authorities arrested a 50-year-old man identified as Rashad Johnson of Norman, Oklahoma. He was taken into custody on suspicion of homicide by negligent use of a motor vehicle.

Officials have not yet released additional details about what may have led to the collision, including visibility conditions, speed, or why the pedestrian was on the roadway at the time of the incident. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence, including statements from witnesses who reported the crash.

The roadway was temporarily closed while law enforcement processed the scene and documented physical evidence.

Authorities say the investigation remains active and ongoing, and further updates may be released as more information becomes available. They are also reviewing whether additional factors contributed to the fatal encounter.

Law enforcement officials have encouraged anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information to assist with the ongoing investigation.
